Determination of Soil Corrosion Potential for Gas Pipeline Cathodic Protection System Planning

Abstract Research has been carried out to identify the potential for soil corrosion design of cathodic gas pipeline protection system. The research location is in Cimanggis - Bitung, West Java, which located at coordinates 6°19’00 “- 6°28’00” South Latitude and 106°43’00 106°55’30” East Longitude. Measurement resistivity using Wenner method refers ASTM G37, with variations distance 0.75m, 1.50m, 2.50m 6.00m each point. number measurement points 185 points. DC electric current injected into ground, then values between electrodes are read on device. Then calculated equation ρ = 2πAR . results measurements type resistance categorized according level corrosion. Based data processing interpretation resistivity, some locations have low extreme rates. degree will affect buried pipes. Therefore, these locations, planning technical calculations needed pipes be installed.
